The Team

Farriers - Ryan Batty & David Riley

Ryan started shoeing for us in 2006.

Ryan completed a four-year apprenticeship with Londonderry Forge of North Yorkshire and also achieved a diploma in the Worshipful Company of Farriers at Moreton Morrell College, Warwickshire.

Following his apprenticeship Ryan worked a long side a number of expert farriers, including a six-month stint in New Zealand, further improving his knowledge, skills and technique.

In March 2005 Ryan set up Ryan Batty Farriery, now a Limited company, and in 2011 became an approved training farrier with the Farriers' Training Agency, which is part of the Farriers' Registration Council. He is currently working towards becoming an Associate in the Worshipful Company of Farriers.

As the number of horses has increased at Spring Cottage, Ryan brought in David to share the work and between them they keep on top of all our shoeing and hoof management needs.

Equine Dentist - Dean Crossman

Dean has been our equine dentist for a number of years now and does an excellent job. He is quiet around the horses and is very patient giving them confidence and consequently keeping stress to a minimum. The majority of the horses are totally relaxed around him and do not mind having their teeth done!

Each horse will have its teeth checked every six months and with this number of horses there are two or more rotations on-going.

Vets

Baker, McVeigh & Abbott, Rainbow Equine Hospital & Station House Vets

We are very lucky in that we have three excellent practices, all contributing something towards the care and well being of our horses, 24/7. Depending on the injury or ailment we use the vet we think most suits the problem. It has worked well to date and we will continue to do so.

Rainbow has state-of-the-art equipment and is the only private Equine hospital in the North to offer the combined services of scintigraphy (bone scan), CT and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) at one site. We are literally only a stones throw away. Brian Abbot and Camilla Nock of Baker, McVeigh & Abbot visit the yard regularly, checking general ailments and administering vaccinations and so forth. Edmund Collins of Station House is excellent with his diagnosis of lameness and respiratory problems. All contributing to the very best care for our horses.
