SUGARLOAF MOUNTAIN gets his head in front

Sugarloaf Mountain: great to see him get his head in front

SUGARLOAF MOUNTAIN stayed on really well to take the 2m½f Handicap at Newcastle yesterday. Stevie Donohoe partnered the five-year-old who broke well and soon had a good position on the inside rail, tracking the leader of this group as they let Senatus go off in front some 15 lengths clear. Looking like they may not catch him, they all started pushing four from home with Sugarloaf Mountain staying on really well, closing the gap with every stride, to take the lead with half a furlong to run. He stayed on gamely to the line to score by a length.

Previously with Aidan O’Brien the gelded son of Fastnet Rock picked up prize money in all six previous outings prior to victory yesterday and was stepping up to this trip for the first time for us. It was great to see him finally get his head in front and congratulations to winning owners, Andy Bell, Anna Noble and Arnie Flower.
